San Jose Mercury: Rescuing Kepler’s

The San Jose Mercury ran a short piece updating the current Kepler’s situation. In it, Clark Kepler is quoted as saying, “I don’t think any other attitude than optimism is appropriate. It’s just an incredible outpouring, and I want to do everybody right by making it work.” This one’s optimistic. Click here for the full article.

  1. I love Keplar’s books. That said, IF the reopening happens,
Clark Keplar and his investors should consider carrying a larger
selection of ‘bargain books’. That is the only thing that draws me
to Barnes and Noble or Borders; they have huge selections of
    discounted books.

  2. This from the Murky-News article:

“A main goal is to negotiate a lower rent for the
    10,000-square-foot store. The rate, exceeding
$30,000 a month, was set during economic boom times
and seems above current market rates, Manus-Salzman said.

The owner, the Tan Group of Palo Alto, offered to
lease a smaller space, but not to reduce the price
per square foot, Manus-Salzman said. But the store
needs ample shelf space to generate sales. A
representative of the Tan Group could not be reached
    for comment Monday.”

Tan Group doesn’t sound too cooperative, at least with the media. They don’t sound too cooperative.

    Hoping for the best,

    Bob.
